We are building a compact, affordable platform for rapid, highly sensitive on-site detection of multiple mycotoxins.
Nanoplasmonics LLC develops portable, ultra-sensitive optical sensors to keep food and animal feed safe. Our devices detect several mycotoxins at once.
Mycotoxins, like aflatoxins, are dangerous to people and animals and cause big economic losses in agriculture. Current tests are often costly, slow, and limited to labs.
Mycotoxins
Mycotoxins can lead to short and longterm health concerns for humans and animals. They are the result of certain fungi and molds found on food crops like grains, nuts, and fruit.
Currently they are hard to detect in the field, and contaminated grain will often end up in bulk storage silos, where they can spread. They eventually travel to plants and distribution facilities and make their way into our homes.
Symptoms of consuming food containing mycotoxins can range minor symptoms such as nausea and vomiting to much more severs consequences such as liver cancer.
We aim to give the tool directly to the farmers, to stop the spread of these poisons.
